Fumarolas da Lagoa das Furnas

We stopped at Fumarolas da Lagoa das Furnas to watch the restaurants pull the cozida that had been cooking in the hot earth.  We’ll be back to Furnas in the next few days to sample the fare.

One of the great surprises has been the beautiful Azalias. The Azores are famous for the Hydrangeas that bloom in July/August, but the Azalias are everywhere, lining miles of beautifully landscaped roads.  Huge stretches of highway are parklike and quite unforgettable.

Cats are a thing here. Every park has lots of cats, begging for food.  Most are a bit standoffish, but a few were up for cuddles.
