Settling in on Pico Island

We have landed in a magical spot on Pico Island (near San Roque do Pico), way out in the country, overlooking the water and the island of São Jorge, with our own cows.  Our lovely host Beatriz met us to show us around and left us with an incredible spread of food and drink.  This place is so peaceful that we have been deeply torn between slowing down and just staying put, and exploring this very interesting island.  AirBnB has provided us with another great home to experience another life.

We also had the opportunity to meet the native Azorean bat, as one had taken up residence in my room prior to our arrival. Rachel and I are old pros at bat removal, thanks to our 1840s home.  I regret that I didn’t snap a photo, but the prospect of having the bat start flying was enough to get us straight to work.

There is a beautiful little outdoor kitchen too. Loved making breakfast there one morning.

You could see our place perched up on the hill from miles away.  It’s the uppermost white/pink house on the right in this last photo.
